To get your photos from the camera to your hard drive, connect the camera to the computer, turn it on, and select
Get Images from Camera in the File menu or select the Camera Capture Tool
from the toolbar.
In the Select Photo Source dialog, choose Download Directly from Camera or
Transfer Photos from Removable Media. If your camera came with a TWAIN driver
you should choose Download Directly from Camera. If your camera registers as a
storage device like many Sony cameras do, select the Removable Media option.
If you are using a memory or flash card reader also select removable media. If you're having trouble,
consult your camera's manual.

In the next dialog, select the camera connected to your computer. If your camera is not
already selected, click Select New Device to see a list of other devices
that you may have installed.

Select your camera
|
|
Next, select where you'd like to place your photos. To add photos to an existing
album select Save to and choose an album name from a drop down list.
This list contains albums located in your My Albums area. To save your photos
in a new folder on your hard drive, choose Save to New Album. You will be
able to specify its name and location in the next step.
Before clicking Next, make sure you also pick a file format
for your images. To do so click on the Saved Format button under
Format and select a file format from the drop down list that appears.
Most cameras store your images as JPEGs and FotoFinish can save them as
JPEGs as well. You can also save your images as PNG, BMP, or TIFF files.
JPEG is a "lossy" file format, which means you lose image information every time
you resave an image. If you want to preserve the quality of your images,
try using PNG. PNG is a lossless file format that will also compress your images
and keep their file sizes small.
You can also specify a prefix if you want to add a phrase like "Summer Vacation" in front of every image file name.

Set capture settings and a place to put the new images
|
|
|
If you chose a new album for your images, once you click Next,
you can specify the name and location of the album in a small pop-up window.
FotoFinish automatically picks a safe, default location but you can change
this location by clicking on the Change Location button.

At the Confirmation dialog, check to make sure your camera is connected to your computer and turned on and click Get Photos.

FotoFinish recognizes cameras with TWAIN drivers and cameras that register as removable drives (like many Sony cameras do).
If FotoFinish doesn't recognize the camera you are trying to connect to, check the following:
- Make sure the camera is on
- Make sure the camera is connected to the computer
- Make sure you installed the necessary drivers and software your camera came with
- Consult the camera's manual
If FotoFinish still does not recognize the camera, we don't support it.
Get your images to the hard drive using the camera's own software and bring them
into FotoFinish by scanning your hard drive.
