Want to turn the clock back a few years? Want to give yourself perfect, porcelain skin?
You don't have to pay hundreds of dollars for a glamour portrait by a professional studio.
With FotoFinish, you
can turn your own family snapshots into glamorous, professionally air-brushed photographs.
|
|
To start, select the face of your subject while excluding the eyes, lips, and the nostrils. To do this, zoom in on your portrait
and use the Polygon Selection Tool to select the face in sections. Select the forehead, cheeks, the top of the nose, and chin
separately. Click down with the mouse where you want your selection to start and continue clicking to add line segments.
To close the selection, double-click. To create a more accurate selection, zoom in and make the line segments shorter by clicking down frequently.
After you finish with the first section, hold down the Shift key as
you click down to start the next section.
This will add selections to your original selection allowing you
to select the face in portions and exclude the eyes and lips of your subject.

Once every section is selected, move them to a separate layer by choosing
Add Layer under Layers in the Image menu.
This way you can easily go back to your original, untouched photograph as well as
easily modify your selections at any point in the future.
Next, choose Special Effects, and apply Blur to smooth out the pores on the face.
Click on the More button and type in 5 to start with. Depending on
the photo you might need to apply more or less blurring.
Use the previews in the dialog to help you pick the right amount of blurring.
If you want to lessen the blurring effect, you can use the Layer menu (click on the black downward arrow on the layer tab) to change
the opacity of the layer.

Next, blur out the background of the picture. Use the Polygon Selection Tool to carefully select the main
subject. Zoom in and use short line segments to create an accurate selection. Then select Invert Selection from the Edit menu.
Once the background is selected, paste it to a new layer, and go to the Image menu, choose Special Effects, and apply Blur to smooth out a distracting background and create
the illusion of depth of field.
Click on the More button and type in 12 to start with. Depending on
the photo you might need to apply the maximum amount of blurring multiple times. Use the previews in the dialog to help you pick the right amount of blurring.
