| Four Easy Projects With Layers |
8. Add a "screen". A "screen" is a single layer of color or gradient used
to make text more readable against an otherwise busy background (like a photograph). To create a screen, add
a new layer (Image->Layers->Add Layer), then choose the
Rectangle Shape Tool from the toolbar. In the Tool Settings Panel, select
the fill color and specify a border.

We chose a gradient fill and no border. Now, you're ready to draw your screen.
Click down with the mouse where you want your screen to begin and drag the mouse to draw the shape.
To complete the rectangle, release the mouse. The rectangle will be highlighted with a black
and white border of "marching ants". This means that the rectangle is selected.
You can still change its fill color, border thickness, border color, transparency, rotation,
or size while it's selected.
Since you placed the screen in a separate layer, you can still apply special effects and rotate it. If you also want to be able to change its fill and border color and resize
it like a vector object, you can make your rectangle a Floating Object by choosing Apply as Floating Object from the right-click menu while your
shape is still selected.

9. Add text. To add text to your project, simply click on the
Text Tool on the toolbar and type anywhere
on your work area.
By default, FotoFinish STUDIO and SUITE makes all text act like a floating object.
This means that if you want to re-edit a piece of text,
you can just double-click on it.
To add some dimension to your text, try adding a shadow using the Shadow command under Effects
on the Tool Settings Panel. Set the position and darkness of the shadow in the Define Shadow dialog.
Blend in the text with the rest of your
project using the opacity slider.
