You can also reduce file size by reducing the number of colors in an image. An image saved
using 2 colors will be substantially smaller than an image saved using 256 colors. This works best
with images that have solid colors and little or no fine gradations.
A dramatic reduction in color for an image that originally contained
lots of colors will result in color banding. Color banding is the appearance of
visible bands of colors that replace subtle gradations in order to accommodate a
reduced color palette. When reducing colors, you have to decide how much quality you
are willing to sacrifice for a reduction in file size.
