Tip of the Month

Look Professional Without Expensive Filters

Usually you want to adjust the color balance of an image
to create a more natural tone. However, you can easily use
the same editing techniques to create dramatic color effects that
enhance your sunset photos and make you look like
you're using professional photo filters.

Simply select Adjust Color in the Image menu,
click on More, and use the sliders to create striking color
combinations.

Increase the reds and yellows in
the picture to create a "warm" effect. Add purple by
increasing both the reds and blues for a "cooler" image.

The FotoFinish Photo Lab
Spice Up Your Photos by Cropping
|
 |
When capturing those magical moments with your family and friends,
you rarely have the luxury of perfectly composing every shot.
But don't fret, FotoFinish's crop tools will help you correct small mistakes
and even create dramatic effects!
To crop an image, select Crop from the Wizard tab. Click the Crop Tool
and resize the cropping frame on your image using the adjustment handles.
Once your selection is in place, hit the Crop Image button to crop.

Sometimes Less is More
Try these cropping techniques on your next photograph:

   |
Crop your subject so you only see half their face |

   |
Create an abstract photograph by cropping to a very small portion of the original photo |

   |
Rotate your photo to an odd angle before cropping to create a dynamic image |

Taking Better Pictures
The Secret to Well Lit Photographs
|
 |
The best time to take pictures is usually in the early morning or late afternoon
when the sun's low position in the sky can give your photograph a magical glow.
Warm Sunset Colors
If you position the sun directly behind you, you'll get rich, warm colors.
With the sun a little to the side, you can create an exotic mix of
shadows that can add depth and texture to any image.
Dramatic Silhouettes
To create a dramatic silhouette, simply frame your subject
against the light and shoot into the sun.
The "Magic Hour"
Want to create an even more dramatic effect? Grab a tripod and start
shooting about an hour before dawn or after sunset. Many photographers
call this the "magic hour."
Face away from where the sun has set or from
where it's about to rise, and use a long exposure to get the seemingly
black sky to turn a deep, velvet blue.
